Iran’s Readiness to Develop a Barter Mechanism with Pakistan / Establishment and Activation of Border Markets

According to the Public Relations Department of the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran (TPOI), a joint meeting on Iran–Pakistan cooperation for national and regional food security was held with the participation of Gholamreza Nouri Ghazaljeh, Iran’s Minister of Agriculture, Mohammad Ali Dehghan Dehnavi, Head of TPOI, Rana Tanveer Hussain, Pakistan’s Federal Minister for National Food Security & Research, along with their accompanying delegations.

During the meeting, the joint ministerial statement on the main text of the Iran–Pakistan Free Trade Agreement was finalized and signed. Mr. Dehghan Dehnavi emphasized the need to reduce the sensitive goods list and announced Iran’s readiness to establish a barter mechanism (goods-for-goods and goods-for-payment) with Pakistan.

He also stressed the importance of mutual standardization of goods, facilitating food and trade exchanges, and launching border markets to accelerate the export of perishable products.

This meeting was described as a significant step toward strengthening economic relations between Iran and Pakistan and putting political will into practice for expanding bilateral cooperation.
